2008 NSA HISPANIC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations on an outstanding season and ARIZONA NSA welcomes you to the 2008 NSA Hispanic World Championship.  This prestigious event will be held September 19-21, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona.

DIVISIONS OF PLAY:

            • Hispanic Men’s Competitive Division

            • Hispanic Men’s Recreation Division

            • Hispanic Women’s Competitive Division (minimum of 8 teams)

            • Hispanic Women’s Recreation Division

            • Hispanic Mixed Competitive Division (minimum of 8 teams)

            • Hispanic Mixed Recreation Division (minimum of 8 teams)

 

Dependant on the number of teams, the Women and Mixed may be combined into one division (Competitive).  For the Mixed program we anticipate being able to avoid most scheduling conflicts with men’s and women’s games, but are NOT guaranteeing NO conflicts.

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE - TEAMS:

Each State and Division has varying qualifying requirements for attending the Hispanic World Tournament, so all entries MUST be made through your respective State Director.  NO entries will be accepted directly from a team for this event. To contact your State Director to verify qualification requirements, please visit www.playnsa.com and click on the “State Director” link.   You must meet all requirements as defined by your Director. All required paperwork and the $300 entry fee must be to your State Director no later than Monday, AUGUST 25th, 2008.

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE – STATE DIRECTORS:

All entry forms and applicable fees must be in hand with ARIZONA NSA no later than Wednesday, September 10th. Forward to: ARIZONA NSA Attention: David Blake, P.O. Box 8881 Surprise, Arizona, 85374.  State Directors are also expected to confirm all entries from their respective states into this Regional Tournament. 

 

Tournament Entry Confirmation:

Teams may confirm they have been entered into the tournament by checking the ARIZONA NSA website at www.aznsasoftball.com. If your team in not on the website list by Sunday, September 14th, you should immediately contact your State Director.

 

ROSTERS:

All qualified frozen rosters must be approved by their State Director and posted at www.playnsa.com. Authorized changes must comply with the NSA eligibility rules as outlined in Article III of the NSA By-Laws.  Roster changes must go through your respective State Director.  DO NOT CALL THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR FOR ASSISTANCE WITH ROSTER CHANGES OR ADDITIONS!!  Players participating in the tournament shall have acceptable forms of identification available at all times.  

 

CONDITIONS:

The tournament will be scheduled utilizing a 4-game guarantee format.  The Tournament Director/Committee reserves the right to change the format i.e., locations of fields, game times and dropping of losers bracket due to inclement weather or conditions.  The conversion to single elimination or format changes would only occur at the point where it would be mathematically impossible to complete the tournament on Sunday on a double elimination basis.  Upon entry into this tournament, all players, coaches, representatives and spectators accept full responsibility to themselves for any injuries which may result from competing or any accidents at the tournament.  Tournament sponsors, NSA Officials and representatives will not be liable for accidents or injuries which may occur.

Entry into the tournament constitutes an agreement to the above conditions.

 

 GAME TIMES:

Bracket schedules WILL NOT be mailed out in advance. You may check the website at www.aznsasoftball.com to find out when your team is unofficially scheduled to play beginning Tuesday, September 16th.  There will be a manager’s/officials meeting Friday, September 19th, 2008 at Native New Yorker in the Westgate Plaza, 7273 N. 95th Ave. (Across from University of Phoenix Stadium).  Check-in will begin at 5:00 PM. Two representatives from each team will be permitted to attend.  All teams should have a representative in attendance. The OFFICIAL schedule, tournament rules and information will be distributed at that time.

BALLS:

This tournament will be played using a 44/400 ball.  ARIZONA NSA will provide NSA approved softballs for the entire event.  Miken is the official ball for the Hispanic Championships.

 

UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS:

All teams must wear similar uniforms. Non-duplicating numbers on all jerseys are required. The numbers must be a minimum of 3 inches in size and clearly visible. Rule 3, Section 6 of the NSA rule book outlines all uniform requirements.

 

HISPANIC PROGRAM RULES:

Classifications of Hispanic softball divisions:

a. Divisions

    Open Division – 4 Home runs with the one – up rule.

    Class C Division –2 Home runs with the one – up rule.

    Class D Division – 1 Home run with any additional home run will be scored as an out.

    Class E Division – 0 Home Runs with the Progressive Home

    Run Penalty.

   NOTE: See Rule 5, Sec. 10, of the Official Slow Pitch Rules for explanation of home run rules.

b. Hispanic rosters are allowed four (4) non-Hispanic players, three of which may play at a time.

Friday, September 19, 2008 5 PM - Team check in at Native New Yorker

Friday, September 19, 2008 6 PM - Manager’s Meeting (2 per team) at Native New Yorker

Saturday, September 20, 2008 7 AM Hispanic World Tournament begins

Sunday, September 21, 2008 7 AM Hispanic World Tournament continues

Sunday, September 21, 2008 7 PM World Tournament tentatively concludes

 

ADMISSION:

Players, coaches and managers participating in the Hispanic World Championship will not be charged a gate fee. Each player will be issues a wristband that should be worn at all times.  Replacement bands may be purchased for $20.  Fees for spectators are listed below:

 

Tournament Pass $15 for the entire weekend

Day Pass $8 for each day
